Biography

Annselen was the ancestor of the O'Bocainain (Irish for fairies) and was the first of the family to settle in Scotland.

Annselan is listed as the brother of Conn Cionntach O'Cahan (no:102), the sons of Dermond in O'Hart's Princes of Limavady (county Londonderry, Northern Ireland)

Anselan - First Laird of Buchanan succeeded his father as provincial King of Southern Ulster. He took part in the slaughter of Turgesius, the Danish general, and his army at Lunerick, and was compelled to leave Ireland with his followers by King Canute, the Danish King who overran that island in the early eleventh century. He fled to Scotland (1016) and soon entered the service of King Malcolm II against the Danes. As a reward for his services, he was given many land grants in the northern part of Scotlan d, Pitwhonidy & Strathyre, and was recognized as the first Laird of Buchanan. Anselan married the heiress of the Laird of Denniestown.
